Overview

H1ssF-3928 mRNA-LNP is an experimental universal influenza vaccine candidate developed by the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This vaccine utilizes a messenger RNA (mRNA) platform delivered via lipid nanoparticles (LNP). Its mechanism of action involves instructing the body's cells to produce the stable stem region of the influenza virus's hemagglutinin (HA) protein. By targeting this highly conserved stem region, which mutates less frequently than the HA head, the vaccine aims to induce a broad and durable immune response against a wide range of influenza strains. This approach is intended to provide long-lasting protection, potentially eliminating the need for annual seasonal flu vaccinations and offering a defense against future influenza pandemics.
