H2N2 live attenuated influenza vaccine is a vaccine candidate developed to protect against potential pandemic influenza caused by H2N2 influenza viruses. These viruses have not circulated in the human population since 1968 but are still regularly detected in animal reservoirs, suggesting high pandemic potential. The vaccine is based on attenuated (weakened) live viruses that can replicate in the upper respiratory tract but cannot cause influenza illness. Clinical trials have shown that the vaccine is safe and well-tolerated by healthy adults, with no serious adverse events reported. The vaccine virus is infectious for humans and was shed by approximately 75-78% of volunteers after administration. Immunological testing demonstrated that the majority (92.6%) of vaccinated subjects responded to the H2N2 LAIV in one or more immunological tests, with 85.2% showing antibody responses and 55.6% showing cell-mediated immune responses.
