Overview

**H5 Astrakhan RNA Vaccine** is an investigational mRNA-based prophylactic vaccine developed for the prevention of influenza A virus infection, specifically targeting the hemagglutinin (HA) protein from the clade 2.3.4.4b A/Astrakhan/3212/2020 H5N1 virus. The vaccine employs a lipid nanoparticle (LNP) delivery system to introduce nucleoside-modified mRNA encoding the H5 hemagglutinin antigen. The mRNA is translated in host cells, resulting in antigen presentation and subsequent activation of both humoral (antibody-mediated) and cellular (T cell) immune responses. The main mechanism is induction of neutralizing antibodies and HA-specific CD8+ T cell responses, providing immunological protection against infection by H5 influenza viruses. The vaccine has demonstrated immunogenicity and protection in preclinical mouse and ferret models and is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials assessing safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults[1][2][3][5].
