The H5 VLP pandemic influenza vaccine is a recombinant, non-infectious virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine designed to protect against highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses of the H5 subtype, including strains such as H5N1 and emerging variants. The vaccine contains hemagglutinin (HA) proteins derived from multiple clades of the H5 virus assembled into particles that mimic the structure of native virions but lack viral genetic material. This design elicits robust humoral and cellular immune responses by presenting antigens in a highly immunogenic form. The primary mechanism involves induction of neutralizing antibodies targeting the HA protein, conferring protection against infection. The technology allows for rapid adaptation to new viral strains and can be produced using cell-based or plant-based expression systems[1][2][4][8]. It is being developed for both human and veterinary use as part of global pandemic preparedness efforts.
