H5.020CMV.PDGF-b is an investigational gene therapy product designed to promote wound healing in chronic ulcers, such as venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers. It utilizes a replication-deficient adenoviral vector (H5.020) carrying the human platelet-derived growth factor B-chain (PDGF-B) gene under the control of a cytomegalovirus (CMV) promoter[2][3][8]. Upon local injection into or around the wound, transduced cells express PDGF-BB protein, which stimulates fibroblast proliferation, matrix formation, and angiogenesis—key processes in tissue repair[2][3]. The therapy has been evaluated in phase I clinical trials for safety and feasibility in patients with hard-to-heal wounds[1][2][3]. The mechanism of action is believed to involve enhanced local production of PDGF-BB at the wound site leading to improved granulation tissue formation and vascularization.
