H5BVIFN-beta is a **lyophilized preparation of High Five (H5) insect cells** transduced with recombinant baculovirus expressing **interferon-beta (IFN-beta)**. It is designed as a local (intratumoral) therapy for cancer: after production, the modified insect cells are injected directly into tumors, where they secrete murine IFN-beta, leading to antitumor effects. In murine models, intratumoral injection of H5BVIFN-beta suppressed the growth of established orthotopic colon cancer and reduced liver metastases. The mechanism involves induction of apoptosis in tumor and endothelial cells, infiltration by immune effector cells (including CD8+ and F4/80+ cells), and upregulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase, resulting in tumor cell death and vascular destruction. The approach is experimental and based on gene therapy/platform delivery using insect cells for local sustained cytokine production[1].
