This is an inactivated monovalent influenza vaccine targeting the H5N1 subtype of Influenza A, developed as part of a pandemic preparedness effort by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). The vaccine is produced using egg-based technology and is designed to induce an immune response against the hemagglutinin (HA) protein of the H5N1 virus. In clinical trials, it is evaluated at various antigen dose levels (3.75 µg, 7.5 µg, and 15 µg) and is administered in a two-dose regimen with an oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant, specifically AS03 or MF59, to enhance immunogenicity and allow for dose-sparing. It is intended for use in the event of an H5N1 influenza pandemic to provide prepandemic immunity.
