The H5N1 VLP triple antigen vaccine is a virus-like particle (VLP) based influenza vaccine designed to protect against highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses of the H5N1 subtype. This candidate vaccine incorporates hemagglutinin (HA) antigens from three distinct clades of the H5N1 virus into a single VLP, enabling broad-spectrum immunity and cross-protection against multiple divergent strains of avian influenza. The mechanism of action involves induction of neutralizing antibodies targeting HA proteins on the viral surface, thereby preventing viral entry into host cells and conferring protection against infection. The VLPs are typically produced using recombinant expression systems such as insect cell-baculovirus or plant-based platforms[2][6][1]. Preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated that this approach elicits strong humoral immune responses in both animals and humans, with evidence for cross-reactive antibody production and protection from challenge with various clades of the virus[3][6][8]. The primary indication is prevention of avian influenza caused by diverse strains within the H5 lineage.
