Drug intelligence / Profile preview
H5N1 VLP vaccine + adjuvant 2 refers to a specific investigational vaccine formulation developed by Novavax for the prevention of H5N1 avian influenza. The vaccine component consists of virus-like particles (VLPs) produced using recombinant baculovirus technology in insect cells (Sf9). These VLPs are engineered to express the hemagglutinin (HA), neuraminidase (NA), and matrix 1 (M1) proteins of the A/Indonesia/05/2005 (H5N1) strain, mimicking the structure of the wild-type virus without containing genetic material. Adjuvant 2 refers to a specific adjuvant formulation—typically a higher dose of aluminum hydroxide (alum) or a proprietary adjuvant system—used in clinical trials to enhance the magnitude and breadth of the immune response. The combination was evaluated in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials to assess safety and immunogenicity, particularly its ability to induce neutralizing antibodies against highly pathogenic avian influenza.
