Overview

The Seqirus H5N8 zoonotic influenza vaccine is an adjuvanted, cell culture-derived, inactivated monovalent vaccine developed for the prevention of avian influenza caused by the H5N8 subtype. It utilizes the MF59 adjuvant, a proprietary oil-in-water emulsion, to enhance the immune response, which is particularly important for zoonotic strains to which the population has little pre-existing immunity. The vaccine's mechanism involves the induction of hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) and neutralizing antibodies targeting the viral hemagglutinin protein. Developed by CSL Seqirus in collaboration with research institutions like the University of Antwerp, this candidate is part of a broader pandemic preparedness strategy to address emerging avian flu threats.
