Overview

H7N9 antigen refers to the antigenic components of the avian-origin influenza A(H7N9) virus, primarily its hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) surface proteins. These antigens are crucial for the development of vaccines against H7N9 influenza, a virus that has caused significant human infections and mortality. The HA protein enables the virus to bind to and enter host cells, while the NA protein facilitates the release of new viral particles. By presenting these antigens, vaccines aim to stimulate the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies, thereby providing protection against infection. Various candidate vaccine viruses and antigens have been developed and tested in preclinical and clinical settings for pandemic preparedness.
