The H7N9 inactivated whole-virus influenza vaccine is a monovalent prophylactic vaccine candidate developed by Hualan Biological Bacterin for the prevention of avian influenza A (H7N9) infection. Unlike split-virion vaccines, this formulation utilizes the entire inactivated virus particle, which is intended to provide robust immunogenicity in populations with little to no pre-existing immunity to the H7N9 subtype. The vaccine works by presenting the viral hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) antigens to the immune system, thereby inducing the production of neutralizing antibodies. Hualan Biological has advanced this candidate through Phase II clinical testing in China (e.g., trial CTR20170834), evaluating its safety, tolerability, and immunogenic profile in healthy subjects aged 12 years and older.
