The H9N2 virosomal vaccine is a type of vaccine designed to protect against the H9N2 avian influenza virus. It utilizes a virosomal or virus-like particle (VLP) platform, which consists of reconstituted influenza virus envelopes containing key viral surface proteins, primarily hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), but lacking the viral genetic material, rendering them non-infectious. These VLPs mimic the natural virus structure, presenting antigens to the immune system to elicit a robust immune response, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and cellular immunity. This mechanism aims to provide protection against H9N2 infection, a significant pathogen in poultry with zoonotic potential. Some formulations may include adjuvants, such as MF59 or ISA70, to enhance immunogenicity.
