The HA1 peptide vaccine is an investigational therapeutic cancer vaccine developed at Hannover Medical School (Medizinische Hochschule Hannover). It targets the human minor histocompatibility antigen HA-1 (HMHA-1), which is selectively expressed on hematopoietic cells and their malignant counterparts. The vaccine consists of a synthetic peptide derived from HA-1, presented in the context of HLA-A2 molecules to stimulate or boost a graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) immune response. It is intended for HLA-A2-positive, HA-1-positive patients who have undergone HLA-matched allogeneic stem cell transplantation from an HA-1-negative donor. Inducing cytotoxic CD8+ T cells specific for HA-1, the vaccine aims to eliminate residual leukemic cells and prevent relapse. It has been evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials (e.g., ISRCTN80896844) for advanced hematological malignancies, including leukemia, and is typically administered subcutaneously, often in combination with donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI).
