Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Biohib is an indigenously developed Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) conjugate vaccine developed and manufactured by Bharat Biotech. It consists of purified polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate (PRP) capsular polysaccharide isolated from an Indian strain (CS-68) of Haemophilus influenzae type b, which is covalently conjugated to a tetanus toxoid carrier protein (PRP-T). This conjugation converts the T-independent polysaccharide antigen into a T-dependent antigen, enhancing immunogenicity and inducing immunological memory in infants and young children. Biohib is indicated for active immunization against invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b, such as meningitis, pneumonia, and septicemia, and is administered via intramuscular injection.
