Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Haemophilus b conjugate vaccine (ActHIB) is a lyophilized, purified capsular polysaccharide of Haemophilus influenzae type b covalently bound to tetanus protein, indicated for the prevention of invasive disease caused by H. influenzae type b in children 2 months through 5 years of age. It works by inducing an immune response that generates antibodies against the bacterial polysaccharide capsule, thereby preventing infection[1][2][5][6]. ViscoGel is an innovative chitosan-based hydrogel adjuvant developed to enhance the immunogenicity and efficacy of vaccines. When used as an adjuvant with ActHIB, ViscoGel aims to improve immune responses and potentially allow for dose sparing or improved protection[3][4]. The combination has been evaluated preclinically and clinically for safety and efficacy as a prophylactic vaccination strategy against Hib disease[3][4]. Sanofi Pasteur is the developer and manufacturer of ActHIB; ViscoGel was developed within European research consortia focused on novel adjuvants.
