Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This pediatric immunization regimen consists of a combination of three distinct vaccines: a Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) conjugate vaccine, a recombinant Hepatitis B vaccine, and a live-attenuated oral polio vaccine (OPV). CombAct-HIB, a specific brand of Hib vaccine developed by Sanofi Pasteur, utilizes the polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP) capsular polysaccharide conjugated to a tetanus toxoid carrier protein (PRP-T) to enhance T-cell dependent immune responses in infants. The Hepatitis B component contains recombinant HBsAg to induce protective antibodies against the Hepatitis B virus. The OPV component contains live-attenuated Sabin strains of poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3, which replicate in the intestinal tract to provide both mucosal (IgA) and systemic immunity. This combination is typically administered as part of the primary childhood vaccination series to prevent invasive Hib diseases (such as meningitis and pneumonia), chronic hepatitis B infection, and paralytic poliomyelitis.
