Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Haemophilus influenzae type b and meningococcal vaccine is a combination vaccine that provides protection against both Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) bacteria and certain groups of meningococcal bacteria (specifically groups C and Y). The vaccine works by causing the body to produce its own protection (antibodies) against these diseases. It is primarily indicated for infants and young children to prevent invasive diseases caused by these bacteria, including meningitis, pneumonia, epiglottitis, and septic arthritis. This vaccine is not a substitute for routine tetanus vaccination and will not treat symptoms of meningococcal infection or flu if already present.
