Overview

The Haemophilus influenzae type B combined vaccine is a combination immunization product that includes the Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) conjugate vaccine along with one or more other vaccines, such as diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTaP), hepatitis B, and/or inactivated poliovirus. The Hib component is made from the purified polysaccharide capsule of H. influenzae type b bacteria linked to a carrier protein (conjugate), which enhances immune response in young children. The primary mechanism of action is to induce immunity against invasive Hib disease by stimulating the production of antibodies targeting the bacterial polysaccharide capsule. Combination formulations reduce the number of injections required for routine childhood immunization schedules and are widely used globally[3][7]. These vaccines are recommended for infants and young children to prevent serious diseases such as meningitis, pneumonia, epiglottitis, sepsis, and other invasive infections caused by H. influenzae type b[1][2][4].
