Overview

Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate vaccine PRP-OMPC is an inactivated bacterial vaccine that contains the capsular polysaccharide (polyribosylribitol phosphate, PRP) of Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugated to an outer membrane protein complex (OMPC) derived from Neisseria meningitidis. Conjugation to OMPC enhances immunogenicity, especially in infants and young children. The vaccine is used for the prevention of invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b, such as meningitis, pneumonia, and epiglottitis. It primes the immune system to recognize and clear H. influenzae type b by inducing anti-PRP polysaccharide antibodies through T-cell dependent immune mechanisms, thereby providing long-term protection. Primary indication is immunization of infants and young children.
