Overview

Haemophilus influenzae type B strain 1482 capsular polysaccharide tetanus toxoid conjugate antigen is a vaccine designed to prevent invasive infections caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib) bacteria. It is a conjugate vaccine, meaning it consists of the capsular polysaccharide (polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate, PRP) from *H. influenzae* type b strain 1482, which is covalently bound to tetanus toxoid. The tetanus toxoid acts as a carrier protein, enhancing the immune response by recruiting T-cell help, particularly in young children. This mechanism leads to the production of protective anti-PRP antibodies and immunological memory, thereby preventing severe Hib-related diseases such as meningitis, epiglottitis, pneumonia, pericarditis, and septic arthritis. The vaccine is administered intramuscularly and is widely recommended for routine immunization in infants and children.
