Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine is a conjugate vaccine used to prevent invasive infections caused by the Hib bacterium, including meningitis, pneumonia, epiglottitis, and septicemia. The vaccine is composed of the purified capsular polysaccharide polyribosylribitol phosphate (PRP) chemically linked to a carrier protein—such as tetanus toxoid (PRP-T), diphtheria toxoid (PRP-D), or the outer membrane protein complex of Neisseria meningitidis (PRP-OMP)—to convert the T-independent polysaccharide into a T-dependent antigen, ensuring immunogenicity in infants. Hib vaccination is a standard component of pediatric immunization schedules worldwide and is available as a monovalent product or as part of multivalent combinations (e.g., pentavalent or hexavalent vaccines) containing antigens for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, and hepatitis B.
