Overview

**Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine (tetanus toxoid conjugated)** is an inactivated, conjugate vaccine for intramuscular use, designed to prevent invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), including meningitis, bacteremia, and pneumonia. The vaccine contains a purified polysaccharide (polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate, PRP) derived from the Hib capsular antigen, covalently bound to tetanus toxoid, which serves as a carrier protein to significantly enhance immune response in infants and young children. It induces the production of anti-PRP antibodies that confer protection against Hib invasive disease. This vaccine is not a substitute for regular tetanus immunization. Approved for use as primary and booster immunization in children 6 weeks to 4 years of age[1][2][5][6].
