Overview
The Hib-MenC vaccine (marketed under the brand name Menitorix) is a combination conjugate vaccine developed by GSK Biologicals to provide active immunization against invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C (MenC) in infants and toddlers. The vaccine consists of Hib capsular polysaccharide (polyribosylribitol phosphate, PRP) and MenC capsular polysaccharide, both individually conjugated to tetanus toxoid (TT) as a carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity in young children. It was widely used in routine childhood immunization schedules, such as in the United Kingdom and Australia, typically administered as a booster dose at 12 months of age. In 2022, GSK announced the discontinuation of Menitorix for commercial reasons, with the vaccine phased out of routine schedules by 2025. In some clinical trial contexts, related investigational formulations containing serogroups A and C (Hib-MenAC) were also evaluated (e.g., in combination with Tritanrix-HepB).
