HaemoPlax

HaemoPlax is a peptide-based platelet substitute developed by Haemostatix (a subsidiary of Ergomed). It is designed as a systemic hemostat for the treatment of systemic bleeding conditions. The drug's mechanism of action involves a specific peptide sequence that binds to fibrinogen, mimicking the function of platelets in the coagulation cascade to support systemic clot formation. This synthetic approach was intended to address the limitations associated with donor platelets, such as their short shelf life and the risk of contamination. While HaemoPlax was part of Haemostatix's original technology platform, the company's development focus shifted toward topical coagulants (such as PeproStat) around 2010, leaving HaemoPlax in the preclinical or experimental prototype stage.
