Overview

Hafnia alvei HA4597 is a precision probiotic strain developed by TargEDys (now Biocodex) for the management of obesity and overweight. The strain, originally isolated from raw milk cheese, functions as a live biotherapeutic that produces Caseinolytic peptidase B (ClpB). ClpB is a bacterial protein that acts as a molecular mimetic of the human satiety hormone alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). By mimicking α-MSH, ClpB interacts with the melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) in the hypothalamus, part of the gut-brain axis, to induce feelings of fullness and regulate appetite. Marketed under brand names such as EnteroSatys and Satylia, clinical trials have shown that HA4597 significantly enhances weight loss and improves metabolic parameters like hip circumference and glycemic control in overweight individuals.
