Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Haikun Shenxi Capsule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily used for the treatment of chronic renal failure (CRF) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The active ingredient is a sulfated polysaccharide, specifically fucoidan, extracted from the seaweed *Laminaria japonica*. It is indicated for patients with chronic renal insufficiency (azotemia stage) to alleviate symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, and edema. Mechanistically, the drug is believed to lower serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels, reduce proteinuria, and exert anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory effects on renal tissue by inhibiting pathways such as TGF-β1 signaling. It is often evaluated in clinical settings as an adjunctive therapy alongside standard treatments like SGLT-2 inhibitors to delay the progression of kidney disease.
