HalfLytely and Bisacodyl is a combination bowel preparation kit used primarily for cleansing the colon prior to colonoscopy in adults. The kit contains two main components: - Polyethylene glycol 3350 (PEG-3350) with electrolytes (sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, potassium chloride), which acts as an osmotic laxative by retaining water in the gastrointestinal tract to induce watery diarrhea. - Bisacodyl delayed-release tablets, a stimulant laxative that is hydrolyzed by intestinal enzymes and colonic bacteria into its active metabolite [bis-(p-hydroxyphenyl) pyridyl-2 methane; BHPM], which stimulates colonic peristalsis by acting directly on the colonic mucosa.
