Overview

Halichondrin B is a complex polyether macrolide, a marine natural product originally isolated from the marine sponge *Halichondria okadai* and other Theonellidae family sponges. It exhibits potent antitumor activity by binding to tubulin and disrupting microtubule function, thereby inhibiting tumor cell growth. This unique mechanism of action made it a significant pharmaceutical lead compound, inspiring the development of the synthetic anticancer drug eribulin mesylate (E7389).
