hALK CAR T cells represent a novel cell therapy approach utilizing genetically engineered autologous T cells to combat cancer. These T cells are modified to express a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) specifically designed to recognize and bind to the Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK) receptor, which is expressed on neuroblastoma cells. Upon binding, the CAR T cells become activated, proliferate, and exert cytotoxic effects, leading to the destruction of ALK-expressing tumor cells. This mechanism involves the secretion of inflammatory cytokines, granzymes, and perforins. The therapy is currently under investigation for its potential in treating relapsed or refractory high-risk neuroblastoma.
