Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lexette (halobetasol propionate) 0.05% Topical Foam is a super-potent synthetic corticosteroid indicated for the topical treatment of plaque psoriasis in patients 12 years of age and older. Originally developed by Therapeutics, Inc. and subsequently acquired and commercialized by Mayne Pharma (which was later acquired by Cosette Pharmaceuticals), Lexette is formulated as an elegant, hydroethanolic aerosol foam designed for rapid absorption without greasy residue, making it particularly suitable for hair-bearing and difficult-to-treat skin areas. Halobetasol propionate acts as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor, exerting anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects while suppressing the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. In clinical trials, including investigator-initiated studies by Skin Sciences, PLLC, Lexette has been evaluated both as a monotherapy and in combination regimens (such as with calcipotriene foam) to induce rapid clearance of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis before transitioning to maintenance therapy.
