Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Halobetasol propionate lotion 0.05% is a super-potent (Class I) topical corticosteroid indicated for the topical treatment of plaque psoriasis in patients 12 years of age and older. Developed by Therapeutics, Inc. in collaboration with Ferndale Laboratories, and marketed under the brand name Ultravate, the drug contains halobetasol propionate, a synthetic corticosteroid that binds to glucocorticoid receptors to exert anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects. It is formulated as a topical lotion applied twice daily for up to two weeks. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing the severity of plaque psoriasis, though it is associated with a risk of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression.
