Haloperidol + methylphenidate is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Haloperidol is a first-generation (typical) antipsychotic that primarily acts as an antagonist at dopamine D2 receptors in the brain, reducing dopaminergic neurotransmission and thereby treating symptoms of psychosis, agitation, and certain behavioral disorders[4][6]. Methylphenidate is a central nervous system stimulant that functions mainly as a norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), increasing synaptic concentrations of these neurotransmitters to improve attention and reduce hyperactivity and impulsivity[7][8]. This combination has been studied in children with hyperactivity or aggressive behavior to assess cognitive effects; results suggest small improvements in performance with methylphenidate and low-dose haloperidol[1]. The concurrent use may be considered in complex neuropsychiatric cases but requires careful monitoring due to potential pharmacological interactions.
