Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Halosys-S is a topical combination medication developed by Systopic Laboratories for the treatment of inflammatory and hyperkeratotic skin conditions, such as plaque psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis. It is formulated as a lotion and an ointment containing halobetasol propionate (a super-high potency synthetic corticosteroid) and salicylic acid (a keratolytic agent). Halobetasol propionate exerts anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, and immunosuppressive effects by binding to glucocorticoid receptors and inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent by dissolving the intercellular cement that holds keratinocytes together, promoting the shedding of dead skin cells and thinning hyperkeratotic plaques. This exfoliating action also enhances the penetration and efficacy of halobetasol propionate into the deeper layers of the skin.
