HaloVax VaxCelerate is a self-assembling vaccine (SAV) platform designed for rapid development of vaccines against emerging infectious diseases (notably COVID-19 and certain cancers). The technology is based on a two-component system: a fusion protein comprised of Mycobacterium tuberculosis heat shock protein 70 (MtbHSP70) linked to the biotin-binding protein avidin, and variable biotinylated immunogenic peptides derived from pathogen or tumor antigens. The immune-activating fusion protein is the fixed adjuvant, while the customizable biotinylated peptides allow rapid targeting of new or mutated pathogens. The vaccine activates both helper and cytotoxic T cell responses and aims to provoke a robust cellular immune response by facilitating antigen delivery and immune system activation. Developed initially through collaborations with the Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, its ongoing development is conducted by HaloVax LLC, a subsidiary of Voltron Therapeutics, in partnership with Hoth Therapeutics. Primary indications include COVID-19 and oncology targets (e.g., ovarian and HPV-related cancers), with proof-of-concept established in preclinical infectious disease and tumor models[2][3][4][5][7][9][10][12].
