Overview

Haloxyfop-P is the most active enantiomer of the racemic herbicide haloxyfop, belonging to the aryloxyphenoxypropionic acid class. It is primarily used as a selective systemic herbicide for post-emergence control of annual and perennial grass weeds in broadleaf crops such as soybeans, cotton, canola, peanuts, and vegetables. Haloxyfop-P acts by inhibiting acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), an enzyme essential for fatty acid synthesis in grasses. This inhibition disrupts lipid metabolism and leads to growth arrest in susceptible grass species while sparing broadleaf crops[1][2][5]. The compound is typically applied as its methyl or ethoxyethyl ester proherbicides (notably "haloxyfop-P-methyl"), which are absorbed through leaves and roots and translocated throughout the plant to target meristematic tissues[1][5]. Developed originally for agricultural weed management, it has also been studied for its toxicological effects on non-target organisms[6][8].
