Overview
Hametum Wund- und Heilsalbe is a topical herbal medicinal ointment containing Hamamelis virginiana distillate as its active ingredient. Developed by Dr. Willmar Schwabe GmbH & Co. KG, it is primarily used for the treatment of minor skin injuries, abrasions, and localized inflammations of the skin and mucous membranes. The therapeutic effect is attributed to tannins within the distillate, which form a protective protein layer on the skin, providing anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic (itch-reducing), and mild hemostatic (bleeding-stopping) properties. It has also been evaluated in Phase IV clinical trials for managing drug-induced skin disorders, such as dryness and fissures caused by systemic medications.
