Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HAmg universal flu vaccine is a monoglycosylated recombinant hemagglutinin (HA) protein vaccine candidate in preclinical development by RuenHuei Biopharmaceuticals (RH Biopharma) in collaboration with OPKO Health, under a license from Academia Sinica. The vaccine is designed to elicit broad, cross-strain protective immunity against various influenza strains, including H1N1. By enzymatically trimming the N-glycans on the hemagglutinin protein to leave only a single N-linked N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) residue at each glycosylation site, the vaccine exposes highly conserved epitopes (such as the HA stem region) that are normally shielded by the glycan coat. This glycoengineering approach enhances the immunogenicity of the conserved regions of HA, promoting the production of broadly neutralizing antibodies and providing superior cross-strain protection compared to fully glycosylated seasonal influenza vaccines.
