Overview
Hand-foot-yan Ning (also known as Shou-Zu-Yan-Ning) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. It is specifically formulated for the prevention and treatment of hand-foot syndrome (HFS), a common dermatological side effect of chemotherapy agents such as capecitabine and 5-fluorouracil. The preparation consists of a combination of herbal extracts, including *Sophora flavescens*, *Phellodendron amurense*, *Carthamus tinctorius*, *Spatholobus suberectus*, and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis*, which collectively exert anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and microcirculation-improving properties. It is typically administered as a topical soak or wash. Clinical studies, including Phase 3 trials, have suggested that it can significantly reduce the incidence and severity of HFS, improving the quality of life for cancer patients and allowing for the maintenance of chemotherapy dosing schedules.
