Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TJ-14, also known as Hangeshashinto or Ban Xia Xie Xin Tang, is a traditional Kampo (Japanese herbal) medicine composed of seven crude drugs: Pinellia Tuber, Scutellaria Root, Coptis Rhizome, Processed Ginger, Ginseng, Jujube, and Glycyrrhiza. It is primarily used in Japan for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, including chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis and radiation-induced enteritis. The therapeutic effects of TJ-14 are attributed to its multi-component nature, which exerts anti-inflammatory and cytoprotective actions. Specifically, it has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) by suppressing cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression and to reduce oxidative stress. In clinical trials, it is often compared to standard treatments like loperamide for managing diarrhea and mucosal damage associated with cancer therapies.
