Hanixol

Hanixol is a brand of mercaptopurine, an oral small molecule chemotherapy drug developed and marketed by Fontus Health. As a purine analogue and thiopurine antimetabolite, it functions as a cytotoxic agent by interfering with the synthesis of nucleic acids. Once metabolized intracellularly into active thioguanine nucleotides, it incorporates into DNA and RNA and inhibits de novo purine biosynthesis by targeting enzymes such as phosphoribosylpyrophosphate amidotransferase. This mechanism ultimately leads to the arrest of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis in malignant cells. Hanixol is specifically indicated for the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) subtype M3 in adults, adolescents, and children.
