Overview
Harlequin is a well-known sativa-dominant cannabis cultivar (strain) specifically bred for its high cannabidiol (CBD) content and low tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) levels, typically maintaining a CBD:THC ratio of approximately 5:2. It was developed by crossing Colombian Gold, Thai, and Swiss sativa landraces with a Nepali indica. As a medicinal cannabis product, it is primarily utilized for the management of chronic pain, anxiety, inflammation, and neuropathic conditions without inducing significant psychoactive effects. The therapeutic profile is driven by the synergistic interaction between CBD, which acts as a negative allosteric modulator of the CB1 receptor and an agonist of the 5-HT1A receptor, and THC, which acts as a partial agonist of the CB1 and CB2 receptors. Harlequin is frequently used in the production of high-CBD oils, tinctures, and topicals.
