Overview
Hawthorn berry (Crataegus spp.) is a botanical medicinal ingredient used primarily for its cardiovascular regulatory properties. In the pharmaceutical context, specifically in the herbal product Korodin Herz-Kreislauf-Tropfen developed by Robugen GmbH, it is formulated as a liquid extract of fresh berries (DER native 1:1.3–1:1.5) and combined with D-camphor. The extract contains bioactive constituents including flavonoids (such as hyperoside and quercetin) and oligomeric proanthocyanidins (epicatechin, procyanidin). It is indicated for the treatment of orthostatic hypotension and orthostatic circulatory disorders, where it acts to stabilize blood pressure in response to postural changes. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in Germany and studied in multiple clinical trials involving over 500 patients.
