Overview

HB-201 is a replication-competent, live attenuated cancer immunotherapy based on the arenavirus Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis Virus (LCMV) vector. It encodes a non-oncogenic fusion protein of the E6 and E7 antigens from human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16). Upon administration, HB-201 induces expression of these viral proteins in host cells, stimulating a robust immune response—particularly cytotoxic T cell responses—targeted against HPV16-positive tumor cells. The drug is being developed primarily for the treatment of HPV-associated cancers, especially head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), but also other HPV16+ cancers. It is part of Hookipa Pharma’s proprietary replicating arenaviral vector platform and can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other agents such as anti-PD1 therapies[1][2][3][4][5][6][8].
