Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HB-AS02V is an investigational adjuvanted recombinant hepatitis B vaccine originally developed by Henogen (now a part of GSK). It consists of 20 µg of recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) expressed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and is formulated with the AS02V adjuvant system, an oil-in-water emulsion containing 50 µg of monophosphoryl lipid A (MPL) and 50 µg of QS-21. The vaccine is specifically designed to elicit a more robust and durable immune response in populations that typically respond poorly to standard vaccination, such as patients with renal insufficiency (including those on dialysis) and other immunocompromised individuals. Clinical studies, including Phase III trials, have demonstrated that a three-dose regimen of HB-AS02V provides more rapid and persistent antibody levels compared to the four-dose schedule of the licensed vaccine Fendrix (HB-AS04).
