HB-EGF ASO is an antisense oligonucleotide designed to specifically target and downregulate heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF) mRNA, thereby reducing HB-EGF protein expression. HB-EGF is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family and plays a role in lipid metabolism, vascular remodeling, and inflammation. In preclinical models, HB-EGF ASO administration results in suppressed hepatic VLDL production, reduced circulating triglyceride and cholesterol levels, improved insulin sensitivity, and protection against atherosclerosis and aortic aneurysm development. The mechanism of action involves gene silencing at the mRNA level, leading to decreased HB-EGF expression and downstream effects on lipid metabolic pathways and vascular inflammation.
