HB001 is a long-acting recombinant fusion protein developed by Wuxi Hebang Biotechnology for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It comprises exendin-4, a potent glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, covalently linked to human serum albumin (HSA). This fusion significantly extends the therapeutic half-life of exendin-4 by utilizing the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn)-mediated recycling pathway of albumin, allowing for less frequent dosing, typically once weekly. HB001 functions by activating the GLP-1 receptor on pancreatic beta cells, which enhances insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, suppresses inappropriate glucagon secretion, and delays gastric emptying, collectively leading to improved blood glucose management.
