Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HB02 is a live biotherapeutic product (LBT) consisting of the anaerobic, butyrate-producing gut bacterium *Agathobaculum butyriciproducens* (strain SR79). Developed by HealthBiome, HB02 is intended for the treatment of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and autism. The therapeutic mechanism involves the modulation of the gut microbiome and the production of metabolites like butyric acid, which act through the gut-brain axis to reduce neuroinflammation and provide neuroprotective effects. Preclinical studies have indicated its potential to improve cognitive function and reduce disease-specific pathologies.
