Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**HB4** is an experimental, four-component natural-product mixture derived from Huang-Qin Decoction, comprising baicalin, baicalein, glycyrrhizic acid, and wogonin. It was developed in academic research at China Pharmaceutical University and the University of Macau as a chemosensitizing and gastrointestinal-protective adjunct to irinotecan. In colorectal cancer HCT116 models, HB4 enhanced irinotecan-mediated inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis; in HCT116 xenograft studies, it showed pharmacological activity comparable with the parent Huang-Qin Decoction, enhanced irinotecan antitumor activity, and reduced irinotecan-associated gastrointestinal toxicity.
