Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HBAI20 is an investigational adjuvanted recombinant protein vaccine developed by CyTuVax BV for the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, specifically targeting individuals who do not respond to standard hepatitis B vaccines. The vaccine is a combination of the licensed hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) vaccine, HBVaxPro-10 µg, and a novel adjuvant system called AI20. The AI20 adjuvant consists of recombinant human interleukin-2 (IL-2) adsorbed onto aluminium hydroxide (alum). This formulation creates a depot at the injection site, allowing for the sustained release of IL-2 nano-aggregates that act as a potent immunostimulant. By enhancing the immune response to the HBsAg antigen, HBAI20 aims to achieve protective anti-HBs antibody titers in both vaccine-naive adults and prior non-responders.
